a year

 it has been
exactly one year ago today -
that i began this blog.
i cannot believe
where the time has gone.
this has really been
a great creative tool
for me.
writing,
staging & taking photos,
taking notice of small life things -
and lessons learned.
i can look back at my posts -
at things i might have otherwise forgotten.
i am starting to make some new friends.
2 real followers - woo-hoo.
i'm hoping for another year -
in a thoughtful journey -
with my thoughtful journal.
i'm glad to be here.

a muse

well i had a long weekend away -
and i've been home
for a couple of days already.
i've been working on my
sketchbook delight class.
i've spent 2 weeks
on the 'finding your muse' lesson.
i needed more time -
still need more time.
this is a struggle i have had.
finding my own creative expression.
without copying others.
i feel like there is nothing new to create.
i was wrong.
alisa was right.
i need to keep off the computer for
creative inspirations -
and get out into the world,
and figure out my own stuff.
to see,
and gather,
and feel,
and notice.
i can't get it from someone else.
it's got to be my own.
i'm going to concentrate on this lesson,
for another week -
before i move on.
when i get back from my vacation -
i will have some art to show -
and it will be from my own experiences.

a walk

we had to force the kids
to go with us.
and we couldn't stop them -
from bringing their cell phones.
but we went on a lovely walk -
sunday morning.
i walked slow -
and stopped to take pictures.
i'm trying to pay attention.
to experience.

 winter has pretty much arrived.

a dance

i stumbled across this video -
and it gives me goosebumps
every time i watch it.
it's a beautiful,
choreographed
dance.
chills.

a refashion

i made another dress.
yesterday.
it only took me about an hour.
i got my inspiration from
another blogger -
that i adore.
http://iammommahearmeroar.blogspot.com/
it's not exactly like cheri's
but, i'm really happy
with how it turned out.
and it was a cinch to make.
here it is...
i used the bottoms of
a bunch of old t-shirts.
layered them up -
and attached them to a new shirt -
from old navy,
that i cut the bottom off of.
sewed the layers together at the waist -
on the right side
so it gives the little fringy, layered look.
i hope no one thinks that was a mistake.
it was totally on purpose.
now to go find a baby girl to try it on.

a drop

this morning
i was going to write about -
a bad hair day,
and a bad pms day,
and the gray,
miserable weather.
so i went outside -
to take some pictures
of the drips and drops.
just for illustration...
and i changed my mind,
about the day.
joy is inside my attitude.
peace & patience -
can be discovered
inside my passions.
i just need to give them
the attention that they deserve -
and be able to say 'no' -
to most everything else.

a tea

i've been begging
my across the street neighbor,
nina,
to invite me for her indian tea.
it's a ritual she does
every afternoon -
before picking up the kids
from school.
it was so creamy and delicious.
here is how she makes it...
get two cups of water to a rolling boil -
in a pot.
with a mortar and pestle,
crush 3 cloves,
3 cardamom pods,
1 cinnamon stick,
1/2 tsp fennel seeds,
& 1 tsp of ajwain (carom seed)
add these to the water -
boil vigorously for about 5 minutes -
add a tea bag - (orange pekoe).
and boil for another minute -
 strain out all the chunks,
and rinse the pot.
put the tea back in the pot -
and back onto the stove.
add about 1 cup of milk -
and boil.
but, watch it carefully
that it doesn't boil over -
or you'll have a mess to clean.
nina transferred the tea
back and forth between the pot
and another jug.
pouring it from up high to create foam.
(be careful not to burn yourself).
this makes about 2 cups of tea -
keep it all for yourself -
or share it with a friend.

a squeezo

i spent the day making applesauce.
i'm not terribly fond of eating it.
but everyone else in my house loves it.
no one was home.
they were at school or just out.
and i set up shop.
it was quite relaxing actually.
going through the motions.
cutting,
cooking,
draining,
squeezing,
scooping,
jarring,
canning,
the kitchen smelled wonderful.
and i felt accomplished.

a start

i need a kick start.
so,
i've signed up for an online sketchbook class.
through an amazing artist/blogger
that i've been following for a while.
http://alisaburke.blogspot.com/
i am hoping,
and praying,
and finger crossing -
that this will be addictive.
here is my start...
